The Spain market

Madrid has become one of Europe's fastest-growing colocation markets, with Marseille–Madrid fibre routes and new subsea landings pulling capacity south. Spanish-language site crews are the norm outside hyperscale campuses.

We mobilise from Madrid and Barcelona with a target of 6 hours to site. Madrid and Barcelona hubs give six-hour mobilisation on the peninsula. Balearic and Canary Islands work is scheduled, not on-call.

How we deliver rack & stack here

Rack build-out in Spain is measured against UNE-EN 50173 and UNE-EN 50174, and the detail that decides a sign-off is usually mechanical: rack orientation against the containment envelope, correct blanking, and cable entry that does not fight the airflow. Our teams work to 6-hour mobilisation from Madrid.

  • Rack positioning and levelling verified against the facility's containment layout before any equipment is unpacked
  • Blanking panels fitted to every unused U — a routine omission that measurably raises inlet temperature in Spain's higher-density halls
  • Cable entry from overhead tray or underfloor, matched to the facility's own routing convention rather than imposed on it
  • PDU mounting and phase balance recorded per rack, with 230/400 V, 50 Hz feeds confirmed before power-on
  • Weight and seismic/floor-loading checks where the facility specifies them

Standards and compliance in Spain

Work is signed off against the standards that actually apply here, not the ones our engineers are most familiar with. In Spain that means UNE-EN 50173 and UNE-EN 50174 as the primary reference, with iec 61935-1 certification as the test regime.

Site safety runs under RD 1215/1997 and RD 614/2001. We supply certificates before mobilisation rather than on request.

Standards applied on site

  • UNE-EN 50173 and UNE-EN 50174 for cabling
  • UNE-EN 50600 for facility design and operations
  • REBT (Reglamento Electrotécnico para Baja Tensión) for electrical installation
  • EU GDPR through the LOPDGDD, supervised by the AEPD
  • ENS (Esquema Nacional de Seguridad) for public-sector tenants
  • NIS2 through the Spanish implementation

Site access and safety

CAE documentation (coordinación de actividades empresariales) is routinely required before contractors enter Spanish sites. Allow time for the exchange.

  • RD 1215/1997 and RD 614/2001 for equipment use and electrical risk
  • Coordinación de actividades empresariales documentation before site entry

Local questions

Working in Spain

Do you handle CAE documentation?

Yes. We supply the coordination paperwork Spanish operators require before site entry, including risk assessment, training records and insurance certificates.

Can you cover the Balearic or Canary Islands?

Yes, as scheduled mobilisation from Madrid with travel planned in. We quote these as planned projects rather than emergency response, and we say so up front.

Is on-site work done in Spanish?

Yes. Outside the large hyperscale campuses in Madrid, Spanish is the working language, and our engineers brief site staff in Spanish.
